BA / BA (Hons) Theology

The programme is aimed at equipping Christians for a range of front-line ministries in the UK and overseas. It balances academic strength with spiritual reflection and a practical focus, enabling Christians to think through issues which they will encounter in their ministry in a biblical and creative way.

The Diploma and degree meet the requirements of many mission and Christian service agencies, and since the BA degree is validated by the University of Aberdeen it is an internationally recognised qualification.

Flexible approaches to study

  • The BA Theology may be studied full-time or part-time.
  • There is only one intake of new students at the start of each academic year. However, applications may be considered for Individual Courses beginning in semester 2.
  • It is also possible to study for a time, break from studies to engage in a period of full-time ministry, or to return to secular employment, and then to resume studies at a later date.
  • Each course is timetabled on one morning or afternoon a week, making it possible for those in full-time work to access the programme by taking a morning or afternoon off each week, for the fifteen weeks of a semester.
  • The BA degree attracts mandatory grant status for eligible students. Some Bursary funds may be available for students in need.

Graduate entry and credit for prior learning

  • Applicants who already hold a degree in another subject may, if they wish, seek entry into the second year of the programme, if they successfully complete the Advanced Entry papers, normally in the September before the commencement of the programme.
  • It is sometimes possible to gain credit for relevant prior learning or previous experience of Christian ministry.

Ministry specialisms

It is possible to take a designated pathway through the BA Theology which enables you to focus your training on a particular area of ministry, and to have that focus recognised in the title of degree awarded on completion of your programme.

Students study the core courses of the BA Theology together with courses which are specifically relevant to the area of specialism. They also undertake an extended placement in their third year. This ensures that students have opportunities to integrate their studies with practical ministry experience.

We offer five such specialisms:
