MTh Biblical Interpretation
This is a taught Masters programme, orgainsed on a seminar basis and validated by the University of Aberdeen. Students explore the challenges of Biblical interpretation, in particular in the light of new developments in the area of hermeneutics. This includes developments in both Western thinking and in that emerging from various parts of the non-Western world. The goal of the programme is to enable students to unlock the transforming potential of Biblical texts in various contemporary contexts.
Over the year, students take six taught courses and then write a 15-20,000 word dissertation in an area of their own choosing, related to Biblical interpretation. Teaching takes place in intensive blocks of one or two days per month per course, making the programme accessible to those who wish to study part-time while still involved in ministry. The programme can be taken full-time in one year, or part-time over two or three years.
It is designed to be relevant and stimulating for those involved in pastoral, preaching and lecturing ministries, and also to serve as a preparation for further postgraduate study.

"Some Christians accept the Bible as a divine revelation but seem unconcerned about the history that it contains. Some see the Bible as being for us alone, because of which the Bible is interpreted according to our own ideas, as we develop a theological system that may actually be out-of-line with what the biblical writers intended. Our goal must be an honest and informed understanding of the biblical text, such that we might grasp the richness of God’s revelation in Scripture, discern the mind and will of God, and live lives under the control of Word and Spirit that will truly glorify the living God."
